Garmin Approach S72 adds swing tracking and a flashlight, starting at $799.99

Garmin’s latest golf watch wants to do more than tell you the distance to your next shot. The Approach S72 adds on-wrist swing metrics and golf-focused biometric information, alongside everyday smartwatch features.

Available in 43mm and 47mm sizes, it comes with an AMOLED display, titanium bezel, sapphire lens and fabric band. Garmin also includes a speaker, microphone and built-in flashlight. Suggested pricing starts at $799.99.

On the course, the watch can provide information such as hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation. Green-reading tools, aerial imagery and putting analytics are also part of the feature set, although some features require an active Garmin Golf membership.

For the larger version, Garmin rates battery life at up to 20 hours on the course or 16 days with GPS off. Actual use will vary.

The membership requirement is the detail I would check before buying. A watch can have an impressive list of features, but you should know which ones remain behind an ongoing subscription. Garmin says the Approach S72 is available now.
