JBL Flip 7 Magnet is a mounting accessory, not a completely new speaker

JBL has announced the Flip 7 Magnet, a mounting accessory designed to keep a Flip 7 speaker in place on boats, golf carts and other indoor or outdoor setups. It will be offered separately and in a bundle with the speaker.

How the Flip 7 Magnet mount works

The important detail is that Magnet refers to the mounting system. This is not an entirely new Flip speaker generation or evidence of a new audio specification.

The bracket attaches to suitable metal surfaces using magnets. An included receiver plate creates a mounting point on nonmagnetic materials, with installation options governed by the instructions.

Speaker, bundle and availability

I like the practical idea. A portable speaker is useful until it keeps sliding around or taking up the seat beside you. A removable mount could make placement easier while still allowing you to carry the same speaker away.

The existing Flip 7 provides the audio, with JBL advertising up to 14 hours of playback and an optional Playtime Boost. Those remain manufacturer estimates. Before buying the accessory, check your mounting surface, installation requirements and the regional bundle price. The announcement does not give a specific retail price or on-sale date.
