Best iPhones for Battery Life in 2026

Compare iPhones for battery life using clearly labelled Apple claims, then account for used-battery health, your workload and charging needs.

Best iPhones for Battery Life in 2026

If battery life is your main reason for buying an iPhone, I’d start with the Pro Max models. Their larger bodies make them worth comparing for long days, but an older phone’s condition can matter more than its original rating. A worn battery changes the whole experience.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max has the strongest current Apple playback claim among the models discussed here. The 17, 16 and 15 Pro Max can still make sense at lower prices. Here’s how I’d compare them without confusing a manufacturer video test with the time you’ll get from your own normal day.

iPhone 18 Pro Max

Apple’s US specifications rate the 18 Pro Max for up to 45 hours of video playback and 40 hours of streamed playback. Those are manufacturer test claims. They aren’t a promise of 45 hours of navigation, gaming or mobile data use.

The large body is part of the purchase. Apple lists 249g, so try the phone with a case before deciding that the battery potential justifies carrying it. A phone you find uncomfortable to hold can be the wrong choice even when its published endurance looks excellent.

I’d consider it for someone who specifically wants a current large flagship and can justify the total price. I wouldn’t tell a satisfied owner of a healthy older Pro Max that a bigger playback number alone makes replacement necessary. The useful improvement should show up in your routine.

For travel, standby time and mobile use can matter as much as a film test. Navigation, a weak signal and a bright display change the workload. I like a battery comparison that explains what the phone was doing, because “all day” can mean something very different to someone working indoors and someone moving between places.

iPhone 17 Pro Max

Apple’s US support page lists up to 39 hours of video playback and 35 hours of streamed playback for the 17 Pro Max. Other regional specifications can differ, so match the claim to the exact model you’re considering rather than copying the largest number from another country’s page.

This is an important reminder for imported phones. SIM arrangements and hardware versions can affect the comparison, and a seller’s broad description may not tell you which unit is in the box. Check the model identification and your network requirements.

If its total price is meaningfully lower than the 18 Pro Max, it deserves a serious look. Battery condition still matters on a used example. I’d compare a dependable unit with clear support against the newer phone, not assume every second-hand 17 Pro Max delivers its original test result.

iPhone 16 Pro Max

The 16 Pro Max’s original Apple claims are up to 33 hours of local video playback and 29 hours of streamed playback. That makes it a sensible model to consider when you want a large battery-oriented iPhone without automatically paying for the newest generation.

Its 6.9-inch display, USB-C and camera flexibility can also make the phone useful beyond endurance. Those features help justify the purchase if you’ll use them. A battery-first buyer should still avoid paying for storage or creator features that don’t matter to their day.

Check the actual battery information and any service history. A low asking price can hide an immediate replacement cost. If the phone needs attention, compare the total amount required to make it dependable with a healthier example or a newer model at a good price.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

Apple rates a new 15 Pro Max for up to 29 hours of video playback and 25 hours of streamed playback. It remains an interesting used or refurbished option for someone who wants USB-C and a large Pro screen while spending less.

The phone’s age makes the seller’s battery policy especially relevant. Ask what standard is guaranteed, whether a replacement has been fitted and what happens if the device behaves poorly after delivery. “Refurbished” is a seller description that needs supporting details.

I’d also compare the price with the 16 Pro Max rather than buying the older model automatically. A small initial saving may not be worthwhile if the newer unit has a healthier battery, clearer warranty or a condition you prefer. The actual offer decides the value.

Battery ratings

Video playback is one controlled workload. Your day may involve a weak cellular signal, navigation, a bright display, camera recording and games. Those activities use the phone differently, so a published playback claim should not become a prediction for your entire routine.

If you compare independent reviews, look for matching tests and settings. A web-browsing result, a gaming loop and a local-video result answer different questions. Taking the highest number from each review doesn’t create a fair ranking.

For your own phone, pay attention to a representative week rather than one unusual day. Setup, large downloads and background synchronisation can distort an early impression. The useful result is whether you have comfortable charge remaining when your normal day ends.

Replacing a battery

If you already own an iPhone you like and its main problem is battery wear, get a proper service quote before buying another phone. Restoring a healthy battery can be a more sensible use of money than changing the whole device.

That doesn’t solve every limitation. Storage, camera needs and software compatibility still matter. But a battery problem should not automatically become a flagship-shopping exercise when the rest of the phone continues to do the job well.

For a used purchase, include possible service in the comparison. Check charging behaviour, available battery information and the seller’s support terms. A displayed percentage is context, not a complete guarantee of future endurance or repair quality.

My picks

I’d begin with the iPhone 18 Pro Max if battery life was the priority and the budget allowed it. Then I’d compare the 17 and 16 Pro Max at the prices available to me. The 15 Pro Max would stay on the list when it saved enough money and came with a dependable battery.

I wouldn’t replace a phone that already gets through my day just because a newer model has a longer playback rating. A battery service may be the more sensible spend if the rest of the phone still does what I need.

My recommendation is to buy enough battery for your routine, in a size you enjoy carrying. The biggest Apple number helps you compare the starting point; the actual unit and the way you use it decide the result. Leave some margin for long days rather than planning to reach a charger at zero percent.
