Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 vs Apple iPhone Duo: Which Should You Buy?

Galaxy Z Fold8 or iPhone Duo? Compare size, software, prices and availability before choosing your next foldable phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 vs Apple iPhone Duo: Which Should You Buy?

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 and Apple's iPhone Duo make a foldable phone feel like a different kind of buying decision. You are choosing the screen you use every day, but you are also choosing the apps and devices that will work around it.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the more straightforward recommendation if you want to buy now and prefer Android. The iPhone Duo is worth waiting for if you want a folding iPhone: pre-orders begin on 16 October, with availability starting on 23 October 2026.

Galaxy Z Fold8: a lighter phone you can buy now

The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201g and combines a 5.5-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch folding screen. That makes the physical design a major part of its appeal, especially if previous book-style foldables felt too cumbersome.

A comfortable outer screen matters because you will not unfold the phone for every message or call. I recommend judging it closed first. Try typing, reaching the top of the screen and holding it with a case before deciding that the inner display is enough reason to buy.

Once open, the larger view can help with reading, comparing information and reviewing photos. The benefit depends on the applications you use, so test those rather than relying only on a home-screen demonstration.

Apple iPhone Duo: the folding option for an Apple setup

The iPhone Duo gives you a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. At 254g, it is heavier than the Fold8, which is worth considering if you hold your phone for long periods.

Its strongest buying argument is straightforward: you want to stay with the iPhone and the apps, accounts and accessories you already use. Moving to a foldable should not force you to rebuild a workflow you like unless the alternative gives you something valuable in return.

Apple's starting US price is $1,999 for 256GB. I would wait for the retail device before making a final choice, particularly if the inner display and new multitasking experience are the main reasons you want it. A first-generation design deserves to be tried in the situations that matter to you.

Cameras: buy for the pictures you actually take

The Fold8 has a 50MP main camera, while the iPhone Duo uses Apple’s 48MP Dual Fusion system. Neither gives you a dedicated optical telephoto. That is the important limitation if you regularly photograph distant subjects; a large folding display does not replace a long lens.

For everyday wide and ultrawide photos, choose around framing and the software you prefer. There is no basis here for declaring a photo-quality winner from the megapixel counts. If long-range photography is a priority, compare a conventional camera flagship before spending nearly $2,000 on either foldable.

Price and long-term ownership

Samsung's US product page lists the Fold8 from $1,899.99 before trade-in. Compare that with the Duo's $1,999 starting price at the same storage level, and treat temporary promotions separately. US sales tax and any protection plan will add to the final cost.

For either phone, find out what an inner-screen repair costs and where it can be carried out. Foldable ownership is easier to justify when you know how a repair or warranty claim will be handled in your country.

I would also check whether your most-used apps make useful use of the expanded screen. If they simply become oversized versions of the same layout, the daily benefit may be smaller than you expected.

My verdict

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want a lighter Android foldable that is already available. Wait for the iPhone Duo if staying with Apple is the stronger priority.

If you are equally comfortable with either system, try both before paying. The way the closed phone feels and the way your apps behave inside are more useful deciding factors than the excitement of a new hinge.
